Interior Noise
By admin on Sep 6, 2010 in Uncategorized
Is the car noisy inside? Does the noise level bother you? If so, think twice about this particular used car model. Generally speaking, noise level decrease with the cost of the car. Economy cars are usually noisy; luxury cars are nearly always quiet. But in between the two extremes, there’s simply no accounting for why some cars make more noise than others. Some engines are louder than others. Air-cooled motors, which are currently used only in some Porsches, but were once used in millions of VW Beetles, are louder than liquid-cooled engines. High-performance and hot-rodded street motors with aftermarket air cleaners and exhaust headers tend to be louder than stock engines. But even some smaller four-cylinder engines, especially high-performance motors with double-overhead cam, 16-valve heads, can be noisy when revved to their limit.
Aftermarket mufflers are sometimes louder than stock mufflers. And some used cars have exhaust leaks. Noise levels vary with the location of the leak. A leak at the exhaust manifold or anywhere upstream of the catalytic converter and muffler will be louder than a downstream leak. If the noise level seems unnaturally loud, make a note of this for your mechanic.
